Ruidoso, New Mexico

This Summer we went to visit Grammy and Grampy in Ruidoso, New Mexico. I made some fun activities for the kids to do on the way. We had some fun travel games and they tore off stickers of the towns we went through.

Off we go!

The whole way there, Bentley asked if a "hill" was a mountain. Then the drive through west Texas is all desert and flat. We didn't start to see mountains until about an hour from Ruidoso. This was the kids first glimpse of the mountains.

It was so cool to drive through the mountains.

Our condo was literally at the top of a mountain. This was our view every morning. The left side of our view was downtown Ruidoso and if you looked to the right you could see the horse track.

Speaking of the horse track. On Saturday, we took the kids to their very first horse races. They had a blast and even did some betting. Grammy was the big winner.

The view of downtown at night.

We saw deer right under our balcony multiple times. This one looked right up at us and posed for the picture.

And Elk!

Beer Run.

Exploring at Grammy and Grampy's RV Park.

Love this pic.

A little Saturday night karaoke.

On Sunday, it was Grammy and Grampy's anniversary. We went to church and then to lunch. It was so neat walking out of church to an amazing view!

That evening, we had them up to our condo for cocktails and dinner.

Even the legos came to NM.

On Monday, Mikey and Grampy went golfing at a resort called The Inn of the Mountain Gods. There was a zip line that went over the pond and the view was breathtaking.

Grammy, the kids and I explored while they finished up golfing.

Then we all went to lunch. The restaurant was on the river so of course we had to explore.

Coming back from lunch in downtown Ruidoso, we could see our condos at the top of the mountain.

That evening, we went to Flying J Ranch. It was quite the experience. We went early and the kids got to ride a horse, shoot a real gun, mine for gold, listen to some music and tour some fun buildings. Then there was a shootout on the main street. After the shootout, we all went in and had dinner. After the dinner, there was a singing show. It was very entertaining. The kids loved it!

On Tuesday, we left first thing in the morning and headed to Alamogordo to the White Sands National Monument. This place was amazing. It was miles of sparkling white sand in the middle of the mountains. As we were driving we could see it in the distance. It looked like a white cloud.

We stopped at the museum first to learn about it and then we went and explored. It was sand dune after sand dune and the sand literally sparkled. We attempted to sled down them but were unsuccessful.

After White Sands, we went to the Heart of the Desert Pistachio Farm. It was neat to learn how they are grown and that Pistachios are actually fruit and not a nut. Pres and I love our Pistachios. We stocked up.

Fun times at Grammy and Grampy's RV.

So another fun story about Ruidoso, is the hummingbirds. They are everywhere and so cool to watch. We put a feeder up on our balcony and would watch them for hours. There would be 10 on the feeder at a time.

On Wednesday, the boys went golfing at Rainmaker.

We laid low in the morning and then went exploring at the Inn of the Mountain Gods while we waited for the boys to meet us for lunch.

The kids first buffet!

That night, our condos had a cookout and live music out by the pool. We had a great time.

We spent our last full day souvenir shopping while the boys went zip lining!

New Mexico is a beautiful place and it was very good to us. Thank you Grammy and Grampy for inviting us and showing us around. We had a blast!
