Kiley's Open Heart Surgery Updates - Day 1

I started a new post for a new day!

8:42pm
Mikey and I just ate dinner and our last visitors just left for the night. Kiley can feel your prayers. Her crying hasn't completely stopped, but she is more comfortable than she was.

They have started two more pain medications that they alternate every three hours. Also, her blood pressure has been high so they put her on some blood pressure medicine. They just upped the dose and her blood pressure finally came down. The Dr. Said that the high blood pressure may be due to her heart being used to working overtime and now it doesn't need to. The nurse also ran some blood tests and she said everything looks good. I am going to try to lie down in her room and get some rest. Please continue to pray that her crying decreases and peacefulness surrounds her. She has some meds, a chest xray and a sponge bath all scheduled through the night so I am sure I will check in.
Presley and Marmee saying goodnight.

6:34pm
Poor Kiley has not been able to rest peacefully since she woke up at 3pm. They have upped her relaxation and pain medicine and she has still been crying and restless. It is absolutely unbearable to sit by her side while she is crying and not be able to make her feel better. They did take off her oxygen mask but her numbers went down a little bit, so it is back on. The doctor just came by and gave the nurse the ok to give her more morphine and to also increase her sedation meds. Please say a prayer for us that these increases will help settle our sweet girl but to also keep her safe, so that we can all get some rest this evening. Aunt Mycah went to the house to stay with Presley. Presley having her snack before Gymnastics!

3:30pm
Kiley started to wake up a little after 3pm, so the nurse took out her oxygen tube. She still has the mask on, but one less tube! Since she was semi awake, they went ahead and did an EKG. They will review the results in the morning.

The nurse gave her a little more pain medication and I just stepped out to snatch the iPad from Daddie to update the blog.

2:28pm
Mikey and I just got back from lunch and our Kiley bear is still resting peacefully. Her blood pressure is a little on the high side but all other vitals are good.

12:45pm
Around 11:30, we finally got to come in and see our precious Kiley. It is probably the hardest thing we have had to see in our lifetime, but it is so reassuring to know that she came out of surgery successfully. A special Thank You to Aunt Gretchen for staying with Presley all morning so that the whole family could be up at the hospital during surgery!!

She is coming out of the anesthesia, so she is in and out of consciousness. She wakes up and whines and then we calm her back to sleep. She is breathing on her own but she is still getting oxygen. They have already reduced the amount of oxygen twice since we have been in here. All of the family has come in one at a time to see her and send their love. She is on a medicine to relax her and she is also receiving pain medication (two doses since 1130). She has 3 different IVs to administer meds and take blood. She also has a catheter, an oxygen tube, and a chest tube in. After her second dose of pain meds, she is finally resting somewhat peacefully. We are hoping that next time she wakes up, they will take out the oxygen tube. Please continue to pray that Kiley will stay as pain free as possible over the next few hours. I will post another update soon.

10:08am
They just wheeled Kiley passed the waiting room and we got a quick glimpse of her sweet little face. We hope to see her in the next hour or so. This is a picture of her ICU room before we occupied it for the next two days.

9:40am
Dr. Mendeloff just came in and said that everything went great! He said that her hole was the size of a quarter. A very big hole for a little girl! He said that she came off of the heart and lung great and they are putting her bandages on now. They will wheel her by for a quick kiss before they take her into the ICU. Thank you thank you thank you for your prayers. Will update again soon.

9:34am
Nurse Kathy came back in and told us that her hole is all patched up. They have done an echocardiogram and everything looks great! The doctor should be out soon to let us know they are done. Thank you for your prayers. Please continue!

8:08am
Nurse Kathy just came in with an update. They just made the incision.

7:05am
The waiting begins.

7:03am
Anesthesia underway.

7:00am
The nurses took Kiley back to the operating room.

6:55am
Gave her "Goofy Juice" to relax her.

6:50am
Came out in the waiting room to give one more kiss!

6:45am
Took temp with more accurate thermometer. It is 99.4. Anesthesiologist came down to check her out. She seems ok so surgery is back on. Mommy braided Kiley's hair for surgery.

Kiley watched Little Einstein's while the nurse listened to her swishing heart one last time before it got fixed!

In this picture, you can see Kiley's necklace. The necklace is called Beads of Courage and you get beads for different things that you go through during surgery and during recovery. It is the neatest thing, and it was actually started by one of Mikey's clients.

6:30am
Took temp and read 100.9. Nurse concerned. Called anesthesiologist. May call off surgery :-(.

6:00am
Checked in at the hospital.

5:30am
Leave for the Hospital

5:25am
Wake Kiley Up

4:30am
Mommy & Daddie Wake Up...I think we only pretended to sleep.

Thank you to all of your for all of the love, support and prayers you have already given us. We will try to update you as much as possible on Kiley today.
