Kiley's Ear Surgery

Two weeks ago, Kiley had her second set of tubes put in her ears. Her first set fell out and she literally had two ear infections in three weeks, so it only made sense to get another set put in. Especially with her heart surgery coming up, she needs to be infection free! Last time Kiley got her tubes put in, I was deathly ill, so Daddie took her. I swear it was no big deal and they were home in a couple of hours. So that is what I expected. We arrived at the hospital at 6am to check in. Once she was checked into the day surgery center, we were put into a room to wait. Kiley got to bring a car into the room to play in!
While we were waiting, we got a call from the anesthesiologist and he was pulled into an emergency surgery, so our surgery got pushed back. To kill time, I took Kiley to the play room. She had so much fun playing in the kitchen!
After almost 4 hours of waiting, they finally had me put her gown on and we were ready to go up to the preop room. She looked so cute in her little gown.
Poor baby had no idea where she was headed, but she sure thought it was fun riding on the bed.
Once we got into the preop room, there was more waiting, so they let her watch Baby Einstein.
In the preop room, they gave her some "goofy juice" to relax her before she went into surgery. Mikey had a break from work, so he came back over and sat with us for a while. She finally went into surgery and the actual procedure is less than 15 minutes. She did great. As soon as she woke up, I was there with her in the recovery room. She was immediately fussy and I knew something was up. I knew she was either in pain or her tummy hurt. The nurse gave her some pain medication and she ended up throwing it up. Over the next hour, she couldn't keep anything down. We finally tried one more medication before having to give her something that would knock her out (and cause us to be there the rest of the day) and thank goodness it worked! She started eating crackers and was finally on the road to recovery. After a lot longer recovery than expected, they finally let us begin the checkout process. After a very long 8 hours, we were free to leave. It is amazing what a couple of hours difference makes and one tough little girl. I knew Kiley would enjoy riding in the wheelchair on the way out.
She even got to ride through the cave!
Kiley is one brave little girl and I am so thankful that she made it through a successful surgery! Unfortunately, this is just a small preview of what we have to come. One week from today, Kiley is having open heart surgery to close up her ASD. It is going to be a long, tough road for all of us and we ask you all to say A LOT of prayers for us over the next few weeks. Kiley's surgery is the morning of the 5th and it is 6 hours long. Please say extra prayers that morning. We know she will be in good hands, but we can't help but worry, that's what parents do. We will send out updates as soon as we get them. Thank you to all.
