I have talked about this tradition in the past. Texmas started in 2002. It was my first Christmas out of college. It started with friends I met through work as a potluck and an ornament exchange among single adults in a small apartment followed by games. We love playing games and are very serious about them. It has evolved over the years as people moved away and we starting meeting our significant others. At one point we had a full on website (because we all worked in IT)where it chose our secret Santa and each person could post 3 gift ideas for their secret Santa.
Once kids came, we started doing gifts among them and the more kids that came, it just got too big. So then we tried an adult only dinner at a nice steakhouse instead of exchanging gifts. We had a private room and the food was amazing, but we ended up playing "games" at the table while ordering $20 glasses of wine. That was an expensive night plus add on the cost of babysitting. So then we did an adults only dinner at our house and hired a private chef to cook for us. The food was amazing and we could still play games in the comfort of a home and the drinks were much cheaper. However, we kept adding more kids to the mix, so the last two years, we have done it at a house and included the kids.
We keep it simple and order pizza. This year Tamra hosted! It was chaotic and fun all at the same time.
