Bentley celebrated his birthday at school the Thursday before his actual birthday. He took cupcakes to celebrate with his friends. He was super excited about his new birthday shirt.
His teacher game him a little "Norman" and he loves it. It is the cutest thing.
His teacher sent home this note.
On Friday, we took the kids to church for the evening and they loved it as always. Bentley had been coughing on the way to church but seemed to be acting fine. The nurse at church even checked his lungs and said he sounded fine. We put him to bed when we got home and he couldn't stop coughing. He ended up throwing up twice from coughing. With his asthma we can never take a chance, so we headed to the ER around 11pm.
They diagnosed him with croup and said that he was contagious, so we had to tell our sweet 4 year old that we had to cancel his birthday party. It was so sad. He had literally talked about his birthday for over 6 months and helped plan it. We felt so bad the next morning. Mikey kept cheering him up by letting him blow out birthday matches.
The house was all decorated and everything was ready to go. Luckily Marmee, Guy, Mycah and Dustin all still came up to help us celebrate. Marmee wrapped three boxes inside each other and Bentley got the biggest kick out of it. They ended up being new binoculars like Guy and Daddie's.
He also got a nerf bow and arrow. Poor Mom always gets stuck buying him clothes since she is such a great shopper so this year I let her get the fun stuff and she was totally the birthday hero!
Luckily we were able to cancel his cake order, but Guy picked up some cupcakes on the way up. We ordered pizza and had cupcakes on Saturday night.
On Sunday, we had a Super Bowl celebration. Mom made tacos.
And Bentley had another "birthday cake".
The Monday after Bentley's birthday, he was on the news!
We were able to reschedule his party for the following Saturday. Not as many friends could make it and we had a million other things going on that day, but luckily the house was already decorated! As you can see, there is absolutely no theme to his party. We literally got on Pinterest and he picked out everything. He wanted a movie party and watch Zootopia. He picked the Super Man cake and the robot favors. I guess you could say it was a "Boy Theme".
The time had finally come! Bentley invited his soccer team. Since most of the siblings are girls Presley's age, we invited siblings and parents to come too. The kids all wore PJs and watched the movie and played upstairs and the adults hung out downstairs. Everyone had fun!
I made a big greek salad and had a few munchies to go along with the pizza for the adults.
Bentley also invited Jacob. Jacob is super cool because he is 6. He also gives Bentley a lot of his old things and Bentley thinks that is so cool.
After the movie, we brought all of the kids downstairs for pizza and cake!
After pizza, we sang Happy Birthday and had cake!
And then the sugar kicked in. The kids got into their favor bags and played for a little bit before everyone left.
After everyone left, Bentley opened his presents. He got a lot of great things!
A couple of weeks after his actual birthday we went for his four year checkup. Unfortunately he had to get two shots. I could tell he wanted to be brave but he literally watched the needles go into his legs. He only cried for a bit and I let him pick out a new toy. He is 40.83 inches tall(63.7%) and 37.8lbs (67.3%). He seems to be right on track with everything and our only concern with him is his asthma and we still pray that it goes away as he gets older.
He is learning his letters and his numbers. He can count to 25, but he skips 13 every single time. He is such a good boy in school. He loves soccer and riding his bike. He learned to ride his bike without training wheels about a month before he turned 4 and we were super impressed. He thinks he is so cool. He already goes up and down the curb and rides down dirt hills and even attempts tricks. He is a talented and smart little boy. He is a very good eater and wants to grow up so fast. Too fast! Every morning when he wakes up he tells us to look at his feet to see how much they grew. He loves Monday, Wednesday and Fridays when it is just he and Mommy. He asks each night what we will do the next day and when I say we are going to the gym he asks if he can go to the Big Kids room. On school days, he asks if it is treasure box day and whether or not he has soccer which are both on Thursdays. He says big words like "incredible" and "enormous". When he gets in the car after school he always asks how my day was and what I did. Sometimes he will tell me that he had a "great" or "awesome" day. He loves to watch movies just like Daddie. I could probably go on and on, but the main thing is that we are so incredible blessed that God gave us such an amazing little boy. I couldn't feel more blessed and I am still learning about all of the "boy stuff" each and every day!
