2 Week Checkup

Wow! We can't believe it has been two weeks since Kiley was born. What a whirlwind to say the least. All I can say is..."we survived". The last two weeks have been a challenge and a blessing and we wouldn't trade any of it. Kiley had her 2 week checkup with Dr. Nale today. She did so great. I fit a feeding in right before we left and luckily I did because it ended up being a long morning.

Kiley weighed in at 6 pounds 9 ounces and is 19.5 inches long. She gained 10 ounces and grew an inch in two weeks(for those of you who don't do math =)). We are so proud of her. The doctor was very pleased with her growth. She is definitely getting plenty of milk! Everything checked out great. She has a little eye infection from her tear duct being clogged, but it is pretty common in newborns and nothing to worry about. We (Daddie) has to put some ointment in 3 times a day and she will be as good as new! She also got her Hepatitus B shot, which hurt, but she was a trooper.

After we left the doctor, we headed down to Baylor to get her 2 week blood screening. It is required by the state. She slept the whole way there and during the checkin process. We didn't have to wake her up until they were ready to take her blood. I knew it wouldn't be pretty because she would be hungry. She was a tough girl while the nurse took her blood, but then she cried the whole way home. She was so hungry. Once we were home and got her fed, she has been an angel ever since.

It is so reassuring to take her to the doctor and hear that she is doing great. It felt like our first accomplishment as good parents. This has been such a learning process for the both of us. We never know if we are doing the right thing, so a little reassurance helps.
