Red River 2019

When we were in New Mexico over the Summer, we came to the conclusion that we probably wouldn't ever be able to go skiing/snowboarding as a family. With Kiley not being potty trained, she couldn't go to ski school and Presley and I don't LOVE driving through the windy mountains. We thought it would be fun if just the boys went snowboarding. So we booked them a trip to Red River, New Mexico.

I packed up a bunch of food and snacks for them.

They packed up the truck the night before.

Then left first thing in the morning.

They drove through a lot of snow (in Texas) to get there!

They pulled over at Bentley Street.

Potty Break!

After a couple of naps...

They started to see mountains...

They checked into their hotel room. It doesn't look like much, but it was at the base of the mountain and the price was right.

The walked over to the rental place to get Bentley's board and boots and they found the Red River!

Time for dinner!

Selfie at the hotel.

Their snowboards are ready to go!

Bentley is all bundled up and ready for his first day of snowboarding!

They made it to the base of the mountain.

We decided to put Bentley in Snowboard School the first half day. This way Bentley could get some formal training (we may have lied about his age) and Mikey could have a half day to himself on the slopes. He met a friend.

Mikey enjoyed some time on the slopes by himself.

He did great!

The instructor said not to take him to the top of the mountain the first day, so they stuck to the green runs closer to the bottom of the mountain.

Time for lunch!

And more snowboarding!

They went tubing. Mikey got some good video.

Time for dinner! After a day of snowboarding and tubing, they were both starving! They put down the entire plate of nachos!

Day 2, first tracks. Now, Bentley was ready to go to the top of the mountain. There is only one way to learn. Bentley made it down the mountain his first time in less than an hour and a half. Mikey's first time took an hour and 45 minutes. Bentley was very proud that his time was faster than Daddie's.

At the base of the mountain there is a black diamond run that is called The Face. Everyone sits at the restaurant and watches people go down The Face.

Lunchtime.

More snowboarding.

Another pic by the river.

Pizza in bed. Bentley thought this was awesome!

After dinner, they went to the base of the mountain for a light and fireworks show.

1st tracks Day 3.

Bentley got better and better on each run! By the 3rd day, he was doing awesome!! He exceeded Mikey's expectations. It was a lot colder and snowed most of the day.

Poor thing fell asleep on the lift. He worked so hard and they went nonstop.

Last run.

Then went to their last dinner in New Mexico.

After dinner they went souvenir shopping. They were in the shop for a while picking things out. When they went to pay, the lady at the front desk was so impressed by how well behaved Bentley was in the store. She gave him the little license plate with his name on it. He made out pretty good!

This is how they hung their stuff to dry each night. Bentley got the biggest kick out of it. He thought it looked like magic.

Goofing around before bedtime.

Some day he will be riding a snowboard this big.

Bentley picked which bed was his and he had all of his friends in bed with him each night.

I have to take a moment to give a huge shout out to Mikey. It was so hard not being there to see Bentley snowboard for the first time. Mikey did such a good job (when he had cell service) at sending pictures and videos throughout the day. He has mad skills, recording Bentley while snowboarding himself. It was so much fun seeing all of the pictures and videos when they got home. Bentley did so awesome. Mikey said he would turn heads and people would cheer for him from the chair lifts because he was so small and snowboarding. He even conquered The Face. I was one proud Mama. I am so glad they had a fun boys trip, but we sure missed them. Mikey edited this picture of him and we ended up getting a medal print of it for his room.

They woke up the next morning and headed back to Texas. Goodbye mountains, for now.
